Our position of Systems Analyst is located right across the street from the Silver Spring, MD metro stop. No more waiting in bumper to bumper traffic!
This job would entail:
* Serving as staff lead for programmatic and administrative matters involving environmental science and research activities covering Europe and Russia, including the Arctic, as well as other portfolios/tasks assigned by the Director.
* Reporting directly to the Director and keeping him routinely informed and engaged on program planning, development and implementation activities.
* Reviewing, analyzing and synthesizing information from a variety of sources into reports, correspondence, and other documents for review by/submission to management and/or counterparts both within and outside of the agency.
* Preparing briefing materials, issuing papers and talking points for review by the Director and other members in preparation for interagency and international meetings.
* Providing completed staff work on all substantive and logistical preparations/plans and follow-up for international meetings and events that the agency participates in, and carries out all program planning and administrative related responsibilities/tasks involving assigned portfolios.
* Networking/developing/expanding working relationships with relevant representatives from the national and international science community, international organizations, embassies and institutions relevant to assigned responsibilities.
* Sharing and managing communications throughout the agency and line and staff offices, as well as the national and international community as applicable to accomplish agency and U.S.-wide goals in the area of ocean, atmospheric and climate research.
* Performing research, writing and editing tasks as assigned in support of the agency and international management functions, controlled correspondence requests, and other assigned tasks.
* Fostering a good understanding of the role, function and services of the agency and to both national and international customers and partners.
The ideal candidate would have:
* A background in environmental policy or science.
* A graduate degree (MA or MS) in science and/or in international relations; international experience and ability to communicate in another language is preferred, but not required.
* The ability to work in a fast-paced office environment, juggle multiple priorities at one time, work well in a team setting, possess strong communication skills (both orally and in writing) to carry out assignments, and be able to effectively interact with a broad range of people, cultures and agencies, both domestically and overseas.
* The ability to identify specific actions necessary to complete specific programmatic and administrative assignments, be proficient in the use of computer-based Microsoft applications (word processing, e-mail, scheduling meetings, etc) in order to carry out daily tasks, and is expected to provide timely, responsive and complete staff work and follow-up on all assignments.
* The flexibility to do some domestic and foreign travel.
