The lack of skilled IT workers is hurting the deployment of emerging technology, according to a new survey from Gartner. In areas from cloud to cybersecurity, this crisis is expected to last for years to come.
Freelancing has seen a wide-spread acceptance among companies in all industries and especially in the IT sector. IT managers claim that hiring freelancers helps them manage their projects more effectively- they can hire temporary workers when the need arises to augment their project team thus avoiding delays and cancellations of projects.
This hiring strategy has also gained popularity due to the difficulty in finding the technology professionals with the right set of skills.
According to Stephane Kasriel, CEO of Upwork, "The tech talent gap has reached a crisis point and companies are struggling with a widening tech skills gap, particularly in areas such as AI, IoT and robotics. The shortage of skilled tech professionals has become a major concern for companies. To help bridge the gap, companies are innovating their talent strategies by leveraging freelancers with the specialized skills they need to develop new technologies."
Freelancing is a win-win situation for everyone involved – IT managers and companies benefit as they are able to successfully complete projects in time and within budget and software engineers benefit in terms of experience and higher remuneration as their skills are in demand.
