Under the direction of IT Director, analyzing and monitoring performance of assigned systems. Assist with interface technologies and application management support/solutions of problems relating to databases, system backups and recovery procedures, as well as new implementations, upgrades, patching and configuration.
The Database Administrator (DBA) is the person responsible for keeping all databases up-to-date and running properly (24 x 7). Key goals include ensuring that the databases are available, performing properly, kept secure through work with network admin team; and maintaining database and database servers in a healthy condition, including software installation, upgrades and patching, migrations, backup and recovery, performance tuning, security, monitoring, problem-solving writing and applying scripts to update the database.
Oversee the day-to-day operation associated with database performance across various applications (i.e. Sage, EMR, PM, Merge, etc.); Key areas of focus:
Performance and Tuning
Analyze tables in the database to establish knowledge of data for accurate retrieval and use in reports and other business processes.
Deep understanding of how the SQL Query process works related to indexes and execution plans related to SQL statistics. - This will help identify any long processing queries that will slow down the system
Understand and proficient of how a database works with hardware. Example: Understanding of how SQL reads/writes data to database files, parallelism, SQL fragmentation, disk and data file setups, and standards, etc.
Understand and proficient with Microsoft SQL maintenance standards and the different types of backup and recovery options
Understand and proficient with SQL security
Utilize available tools such as SQL, SQL Server Manager, Excel, SSIS and SSRS to provide technical feedback, and eventually reports for additional operational support/decision making.
Researches evaluates and recommends new technologies and services related to activities associated with the role of DBA and overall improvements in operational effectiveness and efficiencies.
Assist in planning, coordinating and consulting with vendors and clients for hardware/software purchases, product services and support.
Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in computer science, information systems, programming or equivalent in related field preferred or an Associate’s degree in any of the above fields with 3-4 years hands owns experience.
4 – 6 years experience in a related field. Prior experience with various medium-sized to large size area organizations with multiple databases.
3 years of experience in database administration and security required (4 years preferred).
Knowledge versed in the theory of the following concepts: Relational database design, MS SQL Server 2012 (previous versions helpful);
Proficient with implementing, configuring and utilizing SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) - For reporting and data extractions;
Proficient with implementing, configuring and utilizing SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) - For integration and programming;
Understand a proficient with setting up SQL jobs, scripting.
Knowledge/skills in the following: Transaction SQL; Performance troubleshooting/tuning in SQL Server (additional dBase knowledge helpful)
